As a Prefectural Advisor for Ehime, I work closely with my Japanese counterparts in both the Prefectural Board of Education and the International Affairs Division. As a PA, I underwent training in counselling techniques, and I help mediate local problems on occasion. My primary role is to provide support, counselling, and useful information to our 92 JET participants about everyday life in Japan and about local work-related events. I am also responsible for planning the Prefectural Orientation seminar and the Mid-year Conference, both in terms of logistics and content.

As the first student from Furman to enjoy an exchange opportunity with Waseda University, I suggested a student travelogue as a way to increase exposure for prospective exchange students. (This idea has been continued and expanded.) I kept an online journal about my student experience in Japan, and updated it with articles, photos, montages, and self-produced video content. That journal is still online, here: http://www.furman.edu/inted/archive.cfm?id=4 .
